My New "Stealth"
Drum Controller
Here is a picture of a prototype
controller, that I am both, helping to design, and helping to
write the manual for. I believe it's the newest, and most powerful
hand-held drum controller in the world. Compared to anything
else I have ever seen or heard of, I consider this,"THE"
real weapon of choice, if a drummer is ever going to do battle,
and become victorious in his, or her, struggle to overcome the
dilemma of how all this high-tech equipment transmits digital
drum information, in contrast to actually how a drummer would
EXACTLY play it LIVE, with a pair of drumsticks. While taking
all of that into consideration, it becomes apparent, that there
are other opportunities that are now open because of the use
of this brand new technology. Its self-disclosing applications,
bring me a new awareness of a completely fresh set of options,
with which I can create some innovative and exciting ways of
applying all the old rules of drumming, (time and feel, in a
poly-rhythmic format), to create a whole BRAND NEW conception,
which I now call, playing drums in the land of "WHAT IF"
. . .There are
two things immediately noticeable as soon as you pick "The
Stealth" up. It's constructed very well, it really feels
solid, and is very comfortable as you strap it in place. At the
same time it's very, very, light in weight. I would say it weighs
in at around 6 or 7 pounds. Everything is nice and compact, and
it feels sleek. It seems as if a new "State of Mind"
is also included in the shipping carton. There are 24 pads on
the top front face, each capable of two sounds per pad. In conjunction
with a Sampler from E-mu loaded, this controller can handle drum
kits that can consist of 24, 48, 96, or up to 144 individual
drum sounds per kit with ease, and do it all on the same channel,
or using multiple channels, while sending out program changes,
volume control commands, panning information, and clock, simultaneously.
It can also send separate messages, to several sequencers, on
several different channels at the same time, including Start-Stop,
Start-Continue, Start- then Re-Start from the beginning, and
clock. Also it can velocity shift between two separate banks
of sounds, on different channels, live in real time. This controller
is very touch sensitive, but in a new way due to its advanced
technology. The side of this device, also has 12 more pads placed
along its edges, both on the top and lower sections (I haven't
decided how I'm going to use these, yet). It has a Joystick controller,
and a foot pedal input. More to come, as I work on it, and find
out a little more of what this warriors weapon, CAN REALLY DO.
